25th Anniversary in Chatham

Fran and I went to Chatham, MA for our 25th anniversary. Not too far from and not too close to home. The perfect distance to separate reality from our little bubble. Firstly, we stayed at the Carriage House Inn in Chatham, on the corner of Rte 28 (Orleans Rd.) and Old Harbor Rd. (which, is still Rte 28). A very quaint establishment run by Val & Jim. For a beautiful sunset, visit Hardings Beach

Two great restaurants are Bucas & The Chatham Squire. We had dinner at Bucas for an Italian experience. Pricey but worth it for our special time. The waitress was very polite and attentive, but not hovering. Granted we got there when it opened (5pm) and were the only ones in the establishment until about half-way through our meal. The Bruschetta was great! It was made with goat cheese (my first experience) and cooked (but not over-cooked) diced tomatoes  I had the RAVIOLI DI FRUITTI DE MARE (Home Made Seafood Ravioli with Pan Seared Scallops and Shrimp, and a Lemon Mascarpone Cream Sauce) and my wife had the POLLO AL CHIANTI (Bell & Evans organic chicken breastin a red wine sauce with roasted garlic & tomatoes, cippilino onions, roasted potatoes). Both meals were exquisite. (MENU). We were even given a complimentary glass of Prosecco with a peach flavor to celebrate our anniversary.

The Chatham Squire was great for lunch and offered one of the absolutely best clam chowders that I have ever eaten. I ordered a burger and my wife had the peppercorn turkey sandwich. Both a luncheon delicacy. I never order beef out because I find that not many can cook to order very well. The burger was the best I ever had out at a restaurant. My wife also thought her sandwich was tops!

Long walks along the beaches filled our days and then topped off with ocean sunsets and quiet evenings back at the inn. The innkeepers had full breakfasts ready for 8:30 every morning and they were FULL! Val is a first rate cook and whipped up pancakes with ricotta and lemon and an egg dish with mushrooms. Starting every breakfast was a fresh fruit parfait with yogurt to start the day sweetly.

Here are some of our memories so you can get an idea of where you might like to spend your next special vacation.
